Stan Lee the brain behind all of our favorite Marvel superheroes has died at the age of 95 on Monday in the Cedars-Sinai Medical center in Los Angeles, California after a long battle with pneumonia.
Born into the home of a poor Romanian immigrant, Stan Lee christened Stanley Leiber grew up in Washington Heights, New York. On his graduation from High School, Stan joined the Federal theatre projects where he appeared on stage a few times and later with the help of an uncle, he began to work for Timely Comics in 1939 which was to later become Marvel Comics in 1961.
Stan did not intend to write comics for the rest of his life and instead dreamed of writing a great American book. Not wanting to taint his future writing career with a stint in ordinary comics, he created the pseudonym, Stan Lee when he wrote his first work and so the legend was born.
Stan Lee was best known for the superheroes he co-created with other Marvel Comic writers, Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby, which include Spiderman, Iron Man, Black Panther, The Hulk, X-Men, Thor, The Fantastic four and others. Stan began his journey with writing Comics as a 17 year old teenager although being a comic writer wasn’t his ultimate dream. His talent and ability to create wonderful worlds and great superheroes made him rise fast in ranks and soon he was heading the Marvel Comics as an editor-in-chief, publisher and later a Chairman.
Stan wasn’t just the creator of our favorite superheroes, he endeared himself to his fans with his much loved cameos which his fans would miss the most.
