In the bustling heart of Africa, Zimbabwe a visionary leader stands at the forefront of innovation, and his name is Ken Sharpe.

Recently honoured as Africa’s Most Innovative CEO and representing the Best African Organisation of the Year at the 13th edition of the African Achievers Awards, Sharpe’s impact goes beyond personal accolades. As the CEO of WestProp, he has embarked on a mission to transform Zimbabwe and set an example for the entire continent.

In an exclusive interview, Sharpe shared his thoughts on the significance of the African Achievers Awards, the secret behind his innovative mindset, and his plans to unlock trade and investment opportunities for sustainable development in Zimbabwe.

For Ken Sharpe, the recognition he received is not just a personal achievement; it is a testament to the potential of his home country, Zimbabwe. “These awards are really about us as a people because Zimbabweans have been recognised in a lot of different forums and have been given awards and celebrated” he emphasized.

Sharpe’s vision extends beyond his own success; he sees himself as a representative of his country, eager to showcase the wealth of talent and potential that Zimbabwe holds.

With an unwavering positive attitude, Sharpe believes that innovation begins with the right mindset “You have to see the opportunity. And to do that, you have to believe that really the glass is always half full” he stated.

Embracing change is also a key aspect of his innovative approach. He firmly believes in staying ahead of the curve and leveraging emerging technologies like AI to propel Zimbabwe and Africa forward. “In Africa, it’s the unexpected that will take us to the next level, and we must come up with some ideas that are unexpected,” Sharpe added, highlighting the potential for leapfrogging industries.

Sharpe’s dedication to Zimbabwe is profound. He envisions his country becoming a shining example for Africa, and his plans revolve around sustainable development. Through WestProp, he is working on creating lifestyle communities that integrate residential, commercial, and recreational amenities within close proximity.

His approach emphasizes green technology, such as recycled greywater usage, solar energy, and centralised gas distribution, all aimed at creating a more environmentally friendly and sustainable future.

His commitment to excellence is evident in every endeavour he undertakes. “We believe in executing our goals and excellence. We follow the OKR model,” Sharpe shared.

This pursuit of excellence goes hand in hand with his message to all Africans: take ownership and create something to be proud of. “Leave something behind that you are proud of,” he urged.

Ken Sharpe’s journey as an innovative leader is inspiring as he continues to drive change and progress in Zimbabwe. Through his positive attitude, embrace of innovation, and commitment to sustainability and
excellence, Sharpe is laying the groundwork for a brighter future for Zimbabwe and setting
an example for the entire continent.
