My designs are plus size kawaii. I am a big fan of alternative fashion and Japanese street fashion. So much of the market has been closed to plus-size fans that I made that my mission. I like comfortable, cute, easy to style pieces that you never want to take off.

3. What are your favourite materials to work with?

I don’t think I have any in particular. I love prints but they come on so many bases that it doesn’t really narrow it down. I do have a major love hate relationship with faux fur. I love the way pieces look when made out of fur but I hate the mess it makes. I also love unconventional materials and fabrics. I once got to work with a super fine chainmail like fabric that I’d love to get my hands on again.

4. How important is color to your design process?

It’s very important. I get caught up on using very specific colors and get quite frustrated when I can’t find the perfect match. Even when working with blacks and darker colors it’s very important to me that they look like what I have in mind.

5. How did your knowledge of color theory change the way you think about design?
It’s opened me up to off matches as coordinated clashing. It’s a jauxposition that I don’t play with often but love so much.

6. Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

I take inspiration from a lot of places. There is a performer Kerli, who identifies as a bubble goth, who I always find myself coming back to. The way she blends beauty and pep with a haunting creepiness really speaks to me. I also draw inspiration from Japanese fashion trends and what I would like to see in larger sizes.

7. What is the biggest risk you ever took with a design?

At the moment my spirit of the night garden dress. It has lights in the skirts and headpiece. Its also covered in vintage faux flowers. Creating that dress came down to the wire. I’d love to recreate it with the true lighting effects I wanted it to have.

8. What are you working on now? Any new designs you can hint at?

At the moment I am perfecting the collection show at NYFW and working on a branded line which would be a first.

9. How was it showcasing in New York Fashion Week produced by founder of lolc Sherrie Gearheart? Describe the experience.

I was unable to be there in person as I was recovering from a c-section, the show was 1 week after I had my son, so it was a little bit stressful since I am admittedly a control freak and couldn’t be there to be in full control. I did however have an amazing team working with me, my sister and my assistant. They did an amazing job bringing my visions to life and making sure everything went smoothly. I cried when I got to see the pictures from the runway. This collection and being a part of this show has been my other baby.

10. Where/how can we purchase your items?

I have a shop on etsy www.etsy.com/shop/unresattic and a facebook page where I can be reached for custom pieces. The facebook page is Un-Re Designs.
