Airlines in multiple countries including China airlines have suspended the use of Boeing’s new 737 MAX 8 aircraft over concerns about its safety.
The move follow’s Sunday’s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane to Nairobi which crashed six minutes after take off from the Ethipian capital killing all 157 on board.
The plane was new, having been inaugurated in November. It is the second Boeing 747 Max to have crashed shortly after take off in the past five months, Previously in October a Lion Air Boeing 737 Max crashed shortly after taking off killing 189 passengers and crew.
The China-based-Caijing news service said airlines had received the order to ground its Boeing 737 Max plans from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Sunday.
There are around ninety sevenBoeing 727 Max aircraft in service in China. On Sunday airlines were hastily switching to other Boeing aircraft including 737-800s.
Ethiopian Airlines too halted use of its Boeing 737 Max planes.
Cayman Islands-based carrier Cayman Airways has also suspended use of the Boeing 737 Max.

Mr. Whorms saidCayman Airways is currently working in coordination with both the Boeing Corporation and the Civil Aviation Authorityof the Cayman Islands(CAACI)to monitor the investigation into Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302.
“We offer our valued customers our continued assurance that all prudent andnecessary action srequired for the safe operation of our Max 8’s will be accomplished before the aircraft are returned toservice,” he said, adding that some relatively minor, but necessaryschedule and capacity changes will be needed over the next few daysto managethe flight schedule in instanceswhere the national airline may be short on available aircraft.
Boeing meantime on Sunday updated an earlier statement. “Boeing is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the passengers and crew on Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, a 737 MAX 8 airplane. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of the passengers and crew on board and stand ready to support the Ethiopian Airlines team,” the revised statement said.
“A Boeing technical team will be travelling to the crash site to provide technical assistance under the direction of the Ethiopia Accident Investigation Bureau and U.S. National Transportation Safety Board,” the statement said.
